As coyote encounters become more and more common in urban suburban areas, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is sharing ways to keep them out of your yard humanely. The department reports that coyote sightings holds the distinction of the most commonly encountered large predator in the country. An organization, The Project Coyote organization, states that coyotes are highly adaptable animal that can thrive as long as there is a food source. So, urban landscapes are a place that offers plenty of food sources, water and shelter for the animals.
A rabid skunk was recently found in Texas after it came into contact with a resident’s dog. The skunk was tested and found positive for the rabies virus. Rabies is a potentially fatal disease that affects the central nervous system. Rabies can be contracted from a rabid animal via a bite or scratch. The disease is rarely passed through bodily fluids alone.
